Chances are you have been the victim of a psychopath. A boyfriend or girlfriend who used and abused you, someone who sold you a bill of goods, robbed you, or otherwise manipulated you. They are only one or two percent of the population but they really get around. If I had read this book years ago I might have avoided years of pain. At least I would have seen it coming and could have chosen to avoid it. This book should be required reading before graduating from high school.
I loved this book and bought all of Adelyn Birch's other ones! These books saved my life, no kidding! So many people (especially women) spend years of their lives being victimized and staying in toxic relationships because they aren't able to understand how some people really are predators and will never have empathy or change. These books are clear, short, and concise and helped me make sense of all the drama, pain, and confusion that happened when I was with a psychopath. Best of all, they were VALIDATING. I haven't found anything this detailed and helpful online. I stopped feeling misunderstood after reading these. Every word felt like medicine for my soul. I would love to buy these books in Spanish too, if there was a translation. I have friends who could benefit from them. I personally feel like every girl in the world should read these books by the time they are out of highschool. It would save many lives and stop so much abuse! The message is high quality, but there's a few typos that cause a bit of discredit and could be fixed.
Our Daughter married one and it has made our entire family dysfunctional ever since. People that are in a love relationship with these psychopath's/sociopath's/narcissists don't see how ugly they truly are because they are so easily manipulated at the very beginning of the relationship. These wolves don't add to ones life but rather they enjoy the challenge to destroy ones life.If you start loosing family and friends because you protect this kind of person then you know you are in the hands of a destroyer. Run, run away and don't look back. Nothing good is inside of them. They are the perfect pretenders and will lie, cheat and steal anything to carry on their miserable lives and cover up who and what they really are. They will turn the tables on loved ones to perpetuate their behaviors.Unfortunately, we have lost our daughter and grandchildren because we as loving parents asked questions and wanted to know more so were a threat to his hold on her. She is still after 8 years, unaware that those who really love her and care about her, that tried to protect her were not the problem. She just became his mini me and is sadly just like him now. Echo is her name now.Intelligent people such as our beautiful daughter are the most duped by these kinds of personality's because the more intelligent one is, the more they think they would know they are in a terrible relationship and so don't see the signs coming.Teach you children street smarts to see through the traps these psychopaths set before it gets started.I wish we had known about Sociopaths/Psychopaths before he came into our loving family home. They are so good at putting out the fishing line and reeling in the bait that I don't know if we could have helped our daughter at the very beginning because she had just come out of a bad relationship, prayed for the next man to be her one and only and believed she had answered prayer. Instead, by us being so unaware of him being a psychopath, we unknowingly played into his trap also in the beginning until we saw warning signs.Read about them before you encounter them to know what you are up against. These (people) term used loosely, are actually vicious predators. They are the real wolves in sheep's clothing and they truly are after your blood! Learn all you can about them or you might loose many years until you wake up and realize that you were only a pawn for their unsaleable appetite to look good on the outside to the world while the inside is really just pure evil wanting to eat your soul.
The description of typical behavior and common reaction to that behavior was more helpful to me in freeing myself than all the books on what a psychopath, sociopath or narcissist is. Who cares about definitions and diagnosis when it is the behavior that is killing you and is so well hidden from others that you look (and often feel) like the "crazy person" when in reality you are the "sacrificial lamb" of a crazy person.
I gave this book 4 stars due to the initial chapters describing psychopathy being repetitive (literally using same words & statements multiple times, but perhaps was intentional??). Once the chapters progressed towards the 'red flags' to notice & 'manipulation tactics', it began moving along much better & proved very insightful in not only descriptions of behaviors but also providing clear examples of said behavior descriptions. This also had good academic resources cited which have been written by PhD-accredited doctors & researchers, further helping give creedence to the author in proving & solidifying her experiences & clearly well-researched process attributed in writing it. A good resource and (IMHO) a book which should be required to all young adults prior to commencing their journey in the dating realm (as well as all adults seeking enlightenment for their own self-preservation)!!
When you aren't sure whether the person you're strongly attracted to is the real deal or not, read this book. When your soul mate turns nasty for no reason at all, read this book. When you think you're crazy because the love of your life tells you everything is your fault, read this book. It could save your life, your bank account, and your future. If you think something is off, read this book. Clear, simple, clean layout for people reading through their tears.
I wanted to read this book after I found out the man I was living with had cheated. One womsn5 led to another, and another. What I discovered was the stuff of movies and bestsellers., yet this man had seemed so normal.I read this book and it was like reading my life story.I think anyone in today's dating world should read this book..and learn ro trust their instincts..if it doesn't feel right, there is probably a reason why..
