I was studying for my VCP-DCV exam, but getting nowhere fast. I was trying to digest too much information from the User Guides or books and often getting sidetracked or distracted with topics that were not relevant. I knew i needed to focus and get down to business if I wanted to pass this exam. Thankfully, this cert guide is exactly what I needed.Its been a long time since I've done a certification exam. So I was pleasantly surprised when I found this book to be very well written. In the past, cert exam books (think Solaris certification) were often hastily thrown together, often copied verbatim from man pages or training manuals, and riddled with typos and inconsistencies. Not this book. Bill Ferguson clearly took a lot of effort for all 26 chapters and all sections of the book. I read it cover-to-cover and only found a handful of typos. I also appreciate how easily broken-down & focused each chapter is. Most chapters take 1 hour or less to read and quiz on, so it was very easy to digest this material. I worked through it all in about 3 weeks and passed my 2V0-620 Foundations Exam on the first try. The book also includes free download of practice exam questions which was very helpful. I would recommend this book to anyone.
This book has a lot of useful information, but it seemingly had very little information for the actual exam. I read the book rather thoroughly, even after taking a course and using vSphere. I would recommend doing a bunch of practice tests over learning how to use VMware (what this book teaches). The test sucked and this book hardly helped. vSphere Documentation and Google will do more to help you pass the test.
This book provides a good overview of VMware vSphere 6, but as many others have noted, this DOES NOT prepare you to pass the Foundations exam. So I am torn. On one hand, this is a good resource for day-to-day VMware operations and a decent features overview if you're new to VMware... But I imagine most people that buy this book will specifically be looking to pass the Foundations exam, and this book isn't a great buy for that purpose.Be warned that you'll need to do a lot of additional research to pass the exam, and don't get a false sense of confidence just because you can answer the questions presented in the book. In addition the questions need a LOT of additional quality control, especially in the online content. Many questions have the wrong format, the wrong answer, and so on. I gave up submitting feedback after a while.
Just finished reading this book and passed the vSphere Foundation exam. Book does not cover everything you will encounter on the exam. You will need to watch the vBrownBags on YouTube, and maybe watch the CBTNiggets VMware course if you want to make sure you don't fall. This is all assuming you are new to VMware like I am.
Had a lot of good information on how to use vsphere. But I just took the exam after reading this and using the provided software to generate test questions. Needless to say I was blind sided when I took the exam. Wasn't even relatively close to the practice exams. Needless to say I didn't pass. Now I'm out 125 bucks because VMware makes it seem this books will prep you for the exam. I was wrong and have to do more studying and re take the exam
Does not prepare you for the exam! Very disappointed!
Didn't do a very good job of preparing me for the Exam. It was better than nothing, but I'd say only %40-50 of the Exam material was covered in this book. Practice exams were somewhat helpful.
Lots of info i keep it in my desk for random dumb how to look ups, it helped me pass the exam so it works
